In the past 120 years, various manufacturers have been constantly looking for new ways to make working on saws safer. At Altendorf, too, we have been dealing with the topic of "safety on sliding table saws" for more than a decade.

With our Hand Guard for sliding table saws, we have now developed a system that detects a potential dangerous situation at an early stage and eliminates it. And that before any contact is made with the saw blade. Our hand guard reacts much earlier than all known systems.

Our hand guard system is based on the early detection of a dangerous situation.  Different defined situations are optically recognized and classified using two cameras.  This data is in turn processed by a powerful hand recognition program.

If Hand Guard detects a hazardous situation, the hazard is eliminated within a quarter of a second: the saw unit is lowered quickly and the saw blade is stopped quickly. After triggering the system, the machine is immediately ready for use again. There is no damage to the machine or saw blade - the productivity of your company is maintained.

Karl-Friedrich Schröder, Head of Development at the Altendorf Group, explains the motivation for the groundbreaking development:

„We have always been uneasy about the fact that existing systems, including the well-known "Saw Stop" feature, only ever kick in after the accident has happened. And they cause damage to parts of the machine as well. We wanted the machine to act sooner to protect the operator and prevent accidents and life-threatening injuries altogether. In this way, we can, so to speak, eliminate the danger before it comes into contact.“

Altendorf GmbH from Minden convinced the 12-member jury in the "Industry and Crafts" category with a new type of security system for sliding table saws. Already known protective systems usually rely on the conductivity of the skin to recognize a dangerous situation and then bring the saw blade to a standstill. The problem: With all existing solutions, the contact between the saw blade and the hand must first take place for the safety system to take effect.
